Just 15 km the next day around to Tulamben, another snorkelling spot where there is a sunken USA ship just off the shore. So went out twice that day. And a nice upstairs restaurant with a view of Mt Aging, the highest mt on Bali.
Then a nice coastal ride to Lovina beach. Well the first 50 km was good, traffic ok & fairly flat around the north coast. Then we got to the city of Singaraja and it was about 25 km of heavy traffic, fumes & noise. Pleased to find a place to stay, swim & relax.
Next day 60 km to Pemuteran, an easy ride with only 35 km to the ferry that goes to Java. Found a gorgeous place to stay with a pool, we were the only ones there and they made lovely banana chocolate pancakes for breakfast. Beach not so nice but decided to take a boat tour the next day for final snorkel. Think we both have Java jitters, wondering what lies ahead. We went out to a well known reef & it was the best. Really amazing, like being in a giant fish tank & we did find Nemo!
Final 35 km next morning on Bali through Taman national park. Ferry ride short but we did wait a while until a berth was free. Headed west on the main highway. Hot & lots of traffic but more going the other way towards the ferry. Massive trucks, way bigger than anything in NZ. Wider, longer & loaded to the hilt. Sometimes 10 in a row. But traveling quite slow. Just did another 30 km until we found an area just before a national park that had a few homestays. Lovely older couple, good food & a nice spot on the roof to watch the sunset looking back towards Bali. Survived first day on Java.
