Tilicho lake

We decided to do a 3 day side trip to Tilicho lake. Stayed one night a few hours north west of Minang, it was butter making day in the village. Just stirring a stick in a small barrel round & round.700 x for about a kilo. Well that's what I understood! Just getting to Tilicho base camp was a bit of a mission. There was about an hour crossing scree slopes towards the end of the days walking. I tried not to look up or down, a long way down and big rocks above but it was a very calm day when we went. Not recommended for those scared of heights.  All the supplies have to cross over there as well. Horses and yaks & building supplies, hard to imagine. Stayed the night at base camp, mud walls in our room, no bathroom, just an outside pipe... Had a group of pupu collectors join us for the evening... We left at 6.30 next morning to climb up to the lake took around 2.5 hrs, hard going up to 5000 mts. Supposedly the highest lake in the world, just a little bit of ice left in it, frozen most of the year. Beautiful spot. Stayed up there a couple of hours, watched some icefalls & wandered around. Ate our nak cheese and crackers and tuna for morning tea.  Back down to base camp for late lunch then decided it was too windy and we were too tired to go back across the scree slopes so stayed another night. A bit of a grim spot to spend two nights but we really enjoyed the trip.  Photos of scree slopes and lake.
