We stayed here 4 nights, found a quaint little guesthouse for 200 Bhat per night $8, amazingly cheap. Lovely elderly lady running it and away from the main tourist centre. I wondered why each room had an empty beer bottle outside it ... But they were for the mosquito repellent coil that were lit each night. Good breakkie each day for $2
We took our bikes to the bike shop for a service/clean and overhaul. Picked them up the following day. Also brought new seats, we have been looking for the right ones for a while. The guy did a great job so we were pleased.
We rode out to see the white temple, 13 km each way and a chance to test our new seats, think they will take many kms to wear in!
The guy who built this temple has made it his lifes work and more. Apparently it is going to take 125 years to complete. The murals inside depict things like the twin towers, Elvis, superman and it is a huge tourist attraction. The public toilets are the most ornate I have ever seen ( photo) Well worth the visit.
Wandered around in the evening finding different places to eat, walked through the gardens, visited the hill tribe museum and enjoyed the small town feel. The day we left we visited another temple, this one had teak Buddha's inside, each level with more. The big white Buddha under construction was enormous, I took one of those photos about 2 km away. The photo of the spheres show them being covered in gold leaf. People buy the gold leaf and stick it on. No shortage of things to keep one amazed here!
